Hello Trailblazers,

My grandfather was Fred J "Casey" Cassidy of the 274th and I was poking around a little bit to see what I could find on-line. Obviously your site came up and what a great place to visit. I read whatever I could find on him and the couple of names I remember (of the many!) him talking about in my youth.

Thank you for doing this.

Sam

My father was William A. "Stretch" Dryden, the 6-foot-6-inch soldier in several photos. I have a book he wrote about his Army experience. I'd like to hear from others whose relatives may have served with him. He died Dec. 1, 1994.
It's wonderful to see his photo here. But no one would dare call him Stretch after the war ... he was Mr. Dryden or just Good Ol' Bill!
Thanks!

I found this site while doing some research on my grandfather. Great info and I'm excited to learn more about his time with the 70th during 1945. I believe he was a replacement that did not originally train with the 70th but would have joined in early 1945 as the 70th pushed through the ETO.

My dad, Michael F. Kelly, PFC, 70th Division, 275th Regiment,2nd Battalion, Company F, was stationed with a BAR in a foxhole in the Alsace Vogues Mountains in late December-February 1944-45. Amazingly, we are sitting together talking about those days as he remains a fit and extremely healthy 94+ year old. Anybody interested in his recollections or if he knew anybody that you would hope to hear about, contact me by email.

Does anyone have any information on Charles Zampino? He was in the 275th Regiment, Company E and achieved rank of staff sergeant. He was wounded at the Battle of Wingen. If anyone has any pictures or knows anything, I would love to hear from you.

My Grandfather was PFC Gene M Stone who survived the war only to be killed in an accident while he was in his 40's. This was long before I was born thus, I never knew my maternal granfather.

Was watching National Geographic Channel and the show was about the experiences of American POW's at Berga. I Had heard of American prisoners in labor camps but this program was first I had heard any details of their experiences. What your members went thru is unbelievable. Bless you all. My dad was in the Army 1940-1945 and a paratrooper 1942-1945.

I am looking to hear from anyone that may have known Wetzel Lee, SSG, I/275. If anyone happens to have photos of him or accounts of his service with the Trailblazers, please post these or contact me. He served with Task Force Herren from Dec 44, and was initially a T/5. What his role with Item Company was, I don't know. After the war he was among those transferred to 15th Inf Reg/3rd Inf Division.

My great grandfather, PFC Joseph Reed Morris, served with the 70th.

275th Infantry, Company C
Anti-Tank Gun Crewman

He passed away on July 5th, 2016. I miss him dearly. I am in the process of digitizing some of his photographs from the War. May I share them here? I am also wondering if there is any reference to him/photos of him on this site. Thank you.

My father, Murray Rosen, (deceased 1979) was a POW on your POW Listing -275th Infantry. He was listed missing on Jan. 3, 1945 and sent to Stalag 12F Forbach Bei Saarbrucken Baden. Since this was such a traumatic and wrenching experience, he never spoke about it to his children. Your site provides more information than I had previously known. My brother found this site and we thank you for pulling this information together.

My father Noren G. Peacock served in Canon Company, 276th Inf. Reg. He was a Tech Sgt. He was the platoon sergeant in charge of 105MM howitzer and instructed men in firing and maintenance of gun and military tactics. I found a letter he wrote to my mother in May, 1945 which described some of the battles he was in of which Wingen was the toughest. Before I located this letter I never knew the battles as he never shared them as many returning from WWII never did. According to his letter he came close to being shot by the enemy but survived to lead a long life. I was born about four months before he left for France while he was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri. He was on the SS West Point when the ship landed in France on Dec. 15, 1944.

Just a quick note, my grandfather Lowell E Davis passed in 2004. After the 274th disbanded he worked as a typeset printer for the Stars and Stripes in Berlin. After coming home he stayed a printer for the best part of 40 years. He was in AT274 starting from Camp Leonard Wood through to Germany.
